A couple smiling with perfect smiles

Dental Implants

If you have a missing or damaged tooth, you may feel nervous about smiling, talking, and laughing. Thanks to dental implants, you can enjoy renewed functionality and restored confidence. To learn more, contact board-certified periodontist Dr. James Vlassis, DDS, MS, PC, in Fayetteville, NY.

Wondering What Dental Implants Look Like?

Made from titanium or ceramic materials, a dental implant screws into the tooth gap. It functions as an artificial tooth root.

After being surgically placed in your jaw, the implant fuses with the bone structure. This process is called osseointegration.

Once healing is completed, dental implants can secure a custom dental restoration, such as a crown, bridge, or denture.

What If I Need a Tooth Extraction Before Dr. Vlassis Places My Implants?

You may have a tooth or multiple teeth with significant damage, such as tooth decay or substantial fractures. In such cases, you will need that damaged tooth extracted before dental implant placement.

Dr. Vlassis can remove your tooth painlessly before placing your implants. He will ensure that you stay comfortable during the extraction using sedation.

Once the damaged tooth is removed, you're one step closer to your beautiful new smile.

How Does Implant Placement Work? An Implant Treatment Timeline

Consultation

Before we can schedule your implant placement, you'll need to visit our Fayetteville, NY, office for a dental implant consultation. Many patients are referred to us by their dentist for an implant assessment.

Extraction

If one of your natural teeth is decayed or damaged, Dr. Vlassis will first need to extract that tooth before implant placement can proceed.

Sedation

We will ensure you are fully comfortable before we begin the dental implant procedure. Our dental team will help you achieve a relaxed state before the implant is anchored into your jawbone.

Placement

Once you're comfortable, Dr. Vlassis will make an incision on your gumline, allowing him to access the jaw. He will then place and secure your titanium or zirconia implant. Once that is done, he will carefully close the surgical area.

Osseointegration

The process called osseointegration helps dental implants remain fixed in your jawbone. Essentially, it involves the implant and your jawbone fusing together. This process typically takes three to six months.
